“You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance” (Psalm 90:8).
We have secret sins, secret even from ourselves. When we begin to fall away, Satan blinds our minds and hearts to what is sin. It is only the presence of God and the Word of God that keeps up the stream of consciousness from the throne of God. David understood this; he wrote;
Who can discern his falling away? Cleanse me from my secret sins (Psalm 19:12). “Cleanse me” is in the imperative! And He does!
In the glorious harmony of scripture, we see that his bride was taken from a wound in the side of the first Adam, while the Bride of Christ was taken from a wound in the side of the last Adam.
In Genesis 2:21, we read that God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and then took from his side to form Eve, his bride. This is a prophetic picture of what happened on the Cross, when immediately following the death of Jesus, a soldier opened up His side with a spear and there came forth blood and water, from which the Bride of Christ was formed; the blood signifying the altar of sacrifice and the water the brazen laver, by which all Jews had to pass before coming into the holy place.
The Blood of Christ does away with the altar of sacrifice and the washing of regeneration by the Holy Spirit replaces the brazen laver. Thus, with the veil of the temple now cleft from top to bottom, those who truly form part of the Bride of Christ may approach “the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace to help” (Hebrews 4:16).
