The time will come when those who profess faith in Christ will be invited to deny that faith or have their heads removed; those times are coming nearer every day and for some, they have already been faced with that decision. Unless we have already given up our life in this world, unless we have surrendered everything that we are to Christ, unless the ego, the seat of the senses and the driving force of life, has truly yielded up to Christ and been overcome by the spirit, we will inevitably forsake Christ and the spirit life in favour of preserving the soul life.
“They loved not their soul even unto death”, the scripture tells us of those who are saved in the end times (Revelation 12:11).
There are two primary influences in the life of man, the Spirit of God and the soul of man; or, to put it another way, the divine “I AM” and the human “I am”; and they are utterly opposed to each other; one must rule and the one that rules is dependent upon the choice of each man. This is the violent struggle that each believer must endure if he is to gain the kingdom. We are called to be like the early Hebrew Church, to whom it was written; “But we are not of those shrinking back into destruction, but of faithfulness unto the possession of the soul” (Hebrews 10:39).
Jesus warned us of the events that would come in the end times; and His warning concluded with His admonition to each one of us; “In your endurance possess your souls” (Luke 21:19); and the verb “possess” is in the imperative!
