Sin is rebellion against God. If you hear God and do not obey, that is rebellion and sin. For that reason, most Christians choose not to hear, and gather together where they are unlikely to hear, what God is saying. They might hear what He has said, with the logos being preached, but they will not be in danger of hearing what God is saying; His rhema. But it is the rhema that are the words of eternal life (John 6:68), the word proceeding from the mouth of God by which we are meant to live (Matthew 4:4). Scripturally speaking, God’s true sheep are those that hear His voice and follow Him; those that either do not hear, or do not follow, are goats.
“For just as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous” (Romans 5:19).
We were born in sin through Adam. Our natural man will always inevitably follow that path of rebellion against God. Self first is the instinctive and automatic behaviour of man. As sons of Adam we can go in no other way.
But if we are truly born again through Jesus Christ and deemed righteous, we will follow the same path of righteousness and obedience and self sacrifice as exampled by Jesus in His humanity. Such behaviour is unnatural to the natural man and so we are presented with a lifelong dilemma and struggle; our way or His. This is a never ending battle within, that we must face and fight, but the rewards are great for those who endure to the end – for they shall be saved.
