The things that happened to the Jews happened to them for an example, and were written down for our instruction, according to Paul (1 Corinthians 10:11). What happened to them was a result of their idolatry, spiritual fornication, testing of God and grumbling.

And again; “….whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction” (Romans 15:4).

And again: “to whom (the prophets of old) it was revealed that not to them, but to you, they were serving in the things now proclaimed to you, through those bringing you the good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look” (1 Peter 1:12).

The Church has neglected these lessons and so is doomed to repeat the tragedy of the Jews. The parable of the two sisters (Ezekiel 23), Alohah and Alohabah, is not only allegorical in referring to Samaria and Jerusalem, but is equally relevant to Jews and Christians. The second sister saw what happened to the first but this did not deter her harlotry; in fact, she became worse that her sister and she too, went into captivity and was destroyed.

So it is with Christianity; failing to learn the lessons from the Old Testament, they have focussed instead on developing a warm and fuzzy doctrine based on misinterpretations of the New Testament. They will not listen, so the mouth of the watchman has been shut up, as in Ezekiel 3:25-27, and won’t be open until the judgements are completed, as in Ezekiel 24:27.

In these days of deception, treachery and rebellion, where idolatry, spiritual fornication and testing of God run rampant throughout the Church, it is even more important that the remnant heed these words of Peter: “for you were called to this, that Christ suffered on your behalf, leaving to you an example in order that you should follow in His footsteps” (1 Peter 2:21).
