“Offer the sacrifice of righteousness, and trust in the Lord” (Psalm 4:5).
It is much easier to do something for God than to trust in Him; indeed, modern Christianity is the end result of men doing things for God; it is not God’s work; it is essentially the work of man. Today there are many workers for God but, alas, very few workers with God; the work of the Lord has become more important than the Lord of the work! The outcome of this sort of approach to the faith is one day a week Christianity!
But one day a week Christianity is a delusion; if you cannot worship God seven days a week you do not worship Him one day a week. Christians have come to think that they can discharge their obligations to God by going to Church on Sunday, and then resume the same carnal existence as the rest of the world for the rest of the week. But this is like praying to the east and walking to the west; it robs the believer of peace. The fact is that you can name the name of Jesus a million times in your prayers and in your worship, but if you will not follow the nature and character of Jesus in total and exclusive devotion to the divine will, the name will not mean anything at all.
The way Christ is presented today in the preaching of the Church is the explanation behind the wishy-washy Christianity that is on show in the western world. Religion routinely presents Christ as some sort of cure for all ills, a quick fix to all of the problems people have; in other words, we gain something in this world out of the simple transaction of saying the magic words and becoming a Christian; we are asked to make a small gesture in order to gain much for ourselves. This is a self serving utilitarian gospel that uses the gospel of salvation to make mercantile commodities out of those seeking to find the way of truth and life; as such, it is the gospel of snake oil salesmen!
The truth however, is different. The lowliest individual who truly repents, has faith in God, trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ and receives the Holy Spirit is richer than the wealthiest billionaire who knows Christ only by name. This world can only bestow such honours as it possesses but to be on intimate terms with Christ Jesus is to know God and to possess eternal life!
